Wine and fitness enthusiast Danica Patrick, is not only a dreamer, but a doer. In 2006, after a visit to Napa Valley, she would make a decision that would forever change her view of wine and food.
“Some of my favorite things in life are cooking, food, and wine, so when I fell in love with Napa Valley, I knew I needed to find a perfect property of my own.”
In 2009, Danica purchased a vineyard property on Howell Mountain, and named it Somnium, which means “to dream” in Latin. The idyllic 22-acre estate sits at 1300 feet, just below the Howell Mountain appellation, a region known for its diverse mountain terrain and the wines, which are intense, balanced and exquisitely structured.
Vineyard development began in 2011 with Pina Vineyard Management and our initial winemaker, Aaron Pott. In 2016 Cabernet Franc was also planted and by 2017, the inaugural Somnium Cabernet Sauvignon was released to much acclaim. In 2018 our vineyard achieved CCOF organic status, and released our first estate-grown, saignée-style Rosé. This year we are excited to welcome Julien Fayard as head winemaker, and to expand our portfolio to include some new and diverse varietals that Danica has enjoyed over the years since founding Somnium in 2009.
Danica has always believed in the power of going after your dreams without comparison or limitation. The Somnium estate is an extension of this philosophy and our wines reflect the love and intensity that Danica pours into everything she does.
General Manager and fourth generation Napa Valley Native, Tracy Smith will be representing the Somnium Wine brand. As General Manager at Somnium, she is intimately involved in all facets of the business.
