Q: How do you stay motivated and inspired in your daily life?
A: The sun keeps coming up - I'm a farmer. Animals and plants demand my participation. Hungry animals are a great motivator.
Q: Can you share an example of a time when you had to lead a team through a difficult challenge?
A: Nope. Never had a difficult challenge - just challenges.
Q: If you were given one day to do anything you wanted, what would you do?
A: Orbit the Earth. I love space and astronomy; and I would love to see our planet from 250 miles high.

Native Flora is a small, secluded vineyard and winery hidden high in the famed Dundee Hills of Oregon. We strive to produce premium estate wines in limited quantities for people who enjoy great wine, a good laugh, natural beauty, and a more personal wine experience. We are both a sanctum from the hustling outside world and a rebel winery outpost planted on “the wrong side of the hill”.
Our entire wine life, from farming to sales is rooted in intelligent integration, and improvability. The earth, the vineyard, the people, the flora and fauna, the buildings, the rain – everything that exists at Native Flora – work in harmony to grow great grapes, and produce fine wine. The vineyard supplies geothermal heat to our facility, while the building captures rainwater for the plants. Our Babydoll sheep mow the vineyard, while they prune and fertilize the vines.
One visit to Native Flora should convince anyone that conventional rules and wisdom are regarded as not much more than tepid guidelines or suggestions. This doesn’t mean that convention is incorrect; it simply means that we often break the rules in favor of challenge, innovation, or preference. We operate in a manner each year that improves the quality growing capability of our farm.
Despite the inherent exclusivity of our diminutive size, we remain down to earth, hospitable, and enthusiastic about sharing our chosen path in life. The wines we make reflect both our innovative nature and commitment to continuous improvement.
My why is simple. Independence, self-sufficiency, cognizance are why. So, restated more selfishly, for me is why.
