Situated in the heart of the Monticello AVA (American Viticultural Area), our farm is home to some of the best vineyard sites in Virginia. Only 16 miles from where Thomas Jefferson first planted European grape vines at his Charlottesville home, Monticello, we are continuing the centuries old viticultural traditions of Virginia. From the original eight acres we planted in 1998, our vineyards have expanded to cover nearly 30 acres. Located between 780 and 820 feet above sea level, the distinctive dyke-loam soils found in this part of Albemarle County, combined with a favorable aspect, help us grow exceptional fruit for distinctive wines.

A 2010 graduate of the University of Virginia, Matthew first joined King Family Vineyards as a member of the staff in February of 2011 and he now calls Crozet “home.”  In his time here, he has worked in the vineyard and winery, as well as in the tasting room and office.  He holds a Diploma in Wines & Spirits from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and is currently enrolled as a student of the Institute of Masters of Wine which, like the WSET, is based in London. When he’s not cramming for his next wine exam, Matthew finds time for fresh air, playing fiddle, or cooking a good meal.
