Hourglass is a terroir focused Napa Valley winery comprised of two estate vineyards.  The original four acre Hourglass Estate Vineyard located in St. Helena CA was purchased by the Smith family in 1976.  Originally planted to Zinfandel in the 70’s by his father, Jeff Smith took over vineyard operations in 1990, replanting it to Cabernet.  From the first vintage in 1997, Jeff and the winemaking teams have nurtured the vineyard into one of the signature Cabernets emanating from Napa Valley. Their driving principle is a commitment to land stewardship defined by a strong sense of place, reflected in their wines.

With the acquisition of the Blueline Estate Vineyard in Calistoga California, in 2006, and a new partnership with the Chilton and Clark families, Hourglass has evolved from a single vineyard label into an estate designated wine brand comprised of two estate vineyards (the original Hourglass Estate Vineyard and the Blueline Estate Vineyard) complete with its own postmodern state-of-the art winery.  The Hourglass Estate Vineyard remains 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon derived solely from the Hourglass vineyard site, while the Hourglass Blueline Estate Vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
