SEPPI Craft Sparkling Wine
SEPPI Craft Sparkling Wine is the debut project from vintner Kelsey Phelps, granddaughter of Napa Valley wine pioneer Joseph Phelps. Kelsey grew up learning from her grandfather at the dinner table, in the vineyards and by watching him build an iconic business. The name “SEPPI” was Kelsey and her cousins’ nickname for Joe, who quirkily requested he be called “Giuseppe” instead of grandpa.
Kelsey created SEPPI Craft Sparkling Wine to honor her grandfather’s legacy while also expressing her own personality and modern take on California winemaking. Her debut 2017 vintage includes both a Blanc de Blanc and Brut Rosé, aged en tirage for 18 months. Both wines highlight California’s vibrant flavors while remaining crisp, dry, and balanced. This superbly drinkable style reflects Kelsey’s love of both California Cabernet and French Champagne. All SEPPI sparkling wines are made in the traditional Champagne method from Northern California grapes, resulting in wines of exceptional elegance and finesse.
Before her transition to winemaking, Kelsey cut her teeth as a corporate lawyer in the Silicon Valley law office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Since entering the wine industry, she has been named a finalist for the WSET/IWSC “Future 50” wine industry leaders award. She is a Level 1 accredited sommelier with both the Court of Master Sommeliers and the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, and an active member of Women of the Vine and Spirits. Kelsey splits her time between the Napa Valley and Washington DC where she has lived since 2018. She loves to travel and spends her spare time seeking out new destinations and adventures.
