Château Lagrange, 3rd classified growth in 1855, is located in the heart of the small Saint-Julien appellation. The vineyard stretches in a single block to the west of the appellation. This iconic Médoc estate had its first golden age in the eighteenth century. The philosophy followed over decades has been to spare no efforts whatsoever to allow this beautiful estate to express the true potential of its exceptional terroirs.

Nothing is left to chance, the utmost care is taken at each step, from the winter pruning right through to hand-picking at harvest-time.

Despite being in a single block, soil studies and cross sections have revealed a vineyard of no less than 17 different soil types, contributing to the richness and diversity of our terroirs. This in-depth knowledge of the pedology meant it was possible to fine tune the choice of grape varieties, adapting to each soil type. The present composition of the vineyard is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 5% Petit-Verdot.

The plot-by-plot approach followed in the vineyard then comes back into play as the 102 stainless steel vats, twinned with the estate’s 103 vine plots, allow individual and adapted choices to be made.

Château Lagrange has been open to visitors for some years, offering a selection of theme tastings. Meanwhile our inhouse Japanese chef, Taïchi Sato, concocts delicious, refined dishes for the château’s guests.
